هذا الكتاب هو الكتاب الأول في سلسلة بتاريخ العلوم عند العرب والمسلمين يهدف إلى تبيان بعض ما حققه العلماء العب والمسلمون من إسهامات في مختلف العلوم الأساسية والهندسية والطبية والإنسانية.
وذلك تنمية روح الفخر والإعتزاز في نفوس الشباب الجامعي بتراث أمتهم العربية والإسلامية العلمي وروح الإنتماء لديهم إلى أمتهم العربية والإسلامية، وتدعيم هذه الروح بشواهد وأدلة من تراث أمتهم العلمي الغني بإبداعاته وإسهاماته العلمية الكثيرة التي كان لها السبق في عصرها وكانت القاعدة التي انطلقت منها النهضة العلمية الحديثة.
وبناءً عليه، قسم الكتاب إلى ثلاثة أبواب يختص الأول منها ببيان أسس وتطور وإنجازات ومبادئ وأهداف الحركة العلمية العربية الإسلامية في مجال العلوم الأساسية وببيان المنهج العلمي في ظل الحضارة الإسلامية، ويختص الباب الثاني منها ببيان أسس وقواعد وطرائق علوم الحساب والرياضيات وما تم في مجالاتها من إكتشافات وإسهامات في ظل الحضارة العربية الإسلامية، ويختص الباب الثالث منها ببيان ومناقشة نشأة وتطور العلوم الكيميائية وما حققه علماؤها من إنجازات وإسهامات في ظل الحضارة العربية الإسلامية.
