"وفي عهد الصبا كنت رقيقا، وإذا أراك كما النسيم رفيقا، ظننت أنك كالمسك تفوح وعطرٌ من أريجه عتيقا، فبان فيك أحقاد صلٍّ لقد وقعت على الغدر وثيقا، فإن قرأت القرآن فإنما كل ذلك ستاراً وتسويقا، أيا قاضٍ على الدين في شغف كخالدٍ وفي الصارم تمزيقا، كحبة الماء حمر الرضاب بسمٍ يلتحم نسجها زعيقا".
ها هو ذاك الشاعر يتربع فوق فرشة وطاولة صغيرة أمامه، ويذهب في أحلامه الشاعرية كأنه فوق أرجوحة والحروف تميد بها. تسلخ من بقايا ذكراه عذوبة عهد الصبا، وأسرار الغرام تنسج من وحي ماضيه شاله الأخضر، وتارة تعود به إلى ماضٍ لقد سحقته السنين. تبلله كؤوس من العلقم. ها هو ملاك الأمس ومعذب اليوم يتأرجح بين حروف الأبجدية. هكذا هو الشاعر حسن شعيب، هو الملاك الحزين الذي تقطر قصائده حزناً مشيعة في النفس موسيقى هادئة رزينة، ومطلقة العنان للخيال لاستحضار مشاهد وصور تنسجم وتلك الموسيقى المنبعثة من الحروف، من المعاني، من القوافي.
