كانت زوجة المشرف قد سمعت ما قاله زوجها لنائبه، وجاءت لتدافع عن الفلاحين، وكانت امرأة رقيقة الطبع، طيبة القلب، تحاول على الدوام ان تستلين قلبه وتدافع عن المزارعين، ورجته الا يرتكب خطيئة في حق أحد، وان يسمح للفلاحين بالراحة من العمل اكراماً له.
ولكن المشرف لم يعبأ بكلامها، وسخر منها، فنصحته بالاصغاء لها واتباع نصيحتها، وذكرت له أنها رأت حلماً سيئاً خاصاً به، فنهرها وهددها بالضرب ان لم تكف عن الاسترسال في حديثها، وكلفها بأن ترسل اليه الغداء.
وعاد اليه نائبه، فسأله عن سير العمل، فأجابه النائب بأن العمل سائر على خير ما يرام، فسأله عما يقولون عنه، ولما تردد في اخباره هدده بالعقوبة ان لم يقل الحق؟، فاستجمع الرجل شجاعته، وقال له:"انهم متذمرون وناقمون".
