لعلّ من أمضّ المصائب التي يُختبر فيها المرء فقدان الولد، بعد أن يكون قد وضع الإنسان آمالاً واسعة عريضة عليه، فهو امتداد له، وحامل إسمه، ومحقق آماله وأحلامه، التي لم يستطع لها تحقيقاً، وفجأة ينقطع هذا السبب الموصل إليه، بأن يختار الله إليه هذا الولد أو ذاك.
ولما كان هذا الأمر صعباً على الإنسان، مهما كانت مكانته ومنزلته، تناول علماؤنا هذا الموضوع، كل واحد منهم من زاويته بثقافته وعلمه، سواء أكانت دينية، أم أدبية، أم فقهية، وتناوله كل منهم بطريقته ومنهجه، وجاءت هذه الكتب إما مطولة وإما قصيرة، إما كراريس عيدية، وإما كراسة أو جزء من كراسة، وبعضها جاء متوسطاً.
ومن الكتب التي عالجت هذا الموضوع كتاب "برد الأكباد عند فقد الأولاد" لإبن ناصر الدين الدمشقي، حيث تناول هذا الموضوع - موضوع فقد الأولاد - في كتابه هذا، مبيّناً فيه فصيلة الصبر على المصاب. فجاء هذا الكتاب غزيراً في مادته، سلساً في منهجه وأسلوبه، معتمداً فيه على آيات من القرآن الكريم، وعلى أحاديث نبوية من السُنّة الشريفة، وعلى آثار وحكايات من السلف. ومن الأحداث التي عرضت لهم في حياتهم، جعله مؤلفه تذكرة لأولي الألباب، وتسلية لكل مؤمن مصاب تشرح صدره، وتجلب له صبره، وتهوّن عليه خطبه، وتخفف أمره، ويلحظ بها ثوابه على الصبر وأجره.
