في هذا الجزء من سلسلة "الأعلام من الأدباء والشعراء" يدرس المؤلف سيرة الشاعر والأديب العراقي عبد الوهاب البياتي الذي يعد واحداً من أربعة أسهموا في تأسيس مدرسة الشعر العربي الحديث في العراق، وهم على التوالي نازك الملائكة، بدر شاكر السياب وشاذل طاقة.
توقف المؤلف عند المراحل والتحولات التي رافقت حياة البياتي، حيث كانت كل مرحلة منها خصبة وغنية، ولها ظلالها في شعره وروايته المتعدّدة وكذلك أعماله النثريّة.
واللافت في هذه الإطلالة على حياة عبد الوهاب البياتي أننا بإزاء شاعر إستطاع بما أوتي من عميق موهبة وثقافة متجذِّرة ومتفرِّعه فكّ حجب ما حوله ليتحلَّل من أحاديّة الخريطة وينحلّ ويحلّ في كلّ الخرائط.
لا شك أن القارئ العربي بحاجة ماسة إلى الإطلاع على تراثه الفكري العظيم المتمثل بالأدب والتاريخ والفلسفة والفقه وعلم الكلام وغير ذلك من ميادين الثقافة والمعرفة.
وبما أن تحصيل هذه المعرفة الموسوعية المتكاملة لا يكاد يتاح إلا لأفراد قلائل من ذوي العقول المتميزة والبصائر المتوقدة، كان لا بد لنا من تقديم هذا التراث بشكل مختصر وجامع في الوقت نفسه، بحيث يوافق هذا الإطار المقترح أكثرية القراء العرب، وخاصة طلاب المراحل الثانوية والجامعية. فكانت هذه السلسلة عن أعلام الأدب من نثر وشعر، تولى كتابتها مجموعة من الاختصاصيين الذين تحروا فيه السلاسة في الأسلوب والعمق في التحليل والاختصار في المعلومات، بما يحقق الهدف المنشود من إصدارها.
