شكلت أعمال المخرج علاء الدين كوكش، معلماً بارزاً من معالم الدراما التلفزيونية السورية في بدايتها الأولى، وثمة العديد من الأعمال التي أخرجها في زمن الأبيض والأسود وما تلاه ك "مذكرات حرامي -حارة القصر –أولاد بلدي –أسعد الوراق- تغريبة بني هلال"، عاشت في وجدان المشاهد لسنوات طويلة، وباتت اليوم جزءاً من ذاكرته الفنية والوطنية، كما أنها ساهمت في تغيير المفاهيم والرؤى الإجتماعية في زمنها، وبعضها أحد ث صدمة في أسلوب التواصل الفني،وفي الخطاب الفكري.
ولئن ضاع ذكر الكثير من تلك الأعمال، وفي مجاهل أرشيف التلفزيون السوري الذي طويت فيه مئات الكنوز الدرامية، أو في زمن الصخب التلفزيوني وادعاءات الريادةالزائفة، قإن مهمة توثيق تلك الأعمال وإنصافها تاريخياً، ووضعها في السياق الفني الأصيل والحقيقي،تبقى إحدى أهداف هذا الكتاب، الذي يرصد كذلك جوانب هامة في مسيرة علاء الدين كوكش في العمل المسرحي والثقافي الجاد، وفي الكتابة الدرامية والأدبية.. من أن نغفل في الوقت نفسه، أهمية الحديث النقدي في جوانب هذه التجربة، ومحاولة فراءتها وفق المعطيات الموضوعية التي أفرزت نقاط ألقها وحالت تعثرها.. وجعلت منها بالتالي ملمحاً أساسياً معبراً عن تطور الدراما التلفزيونية السورية في مراحلها الفنية المختلفة، وفي ذاكرة جمهورها عبر أكثر من جيل.
