لإخوان الصفا أهمية كبرى في الفكر الإسلامي الفلسفي، وإذا كانت هذه الاهمية تتراجع في المحيط الفلسفي المعاصر لصالح ابن رشد، ذلك الفيلسوف الذي استطاع إنتاج أفكار فلسفية خلدها التاريخ الفكري، فإن مكانة فلسفة إخوان الصفا تظل في بؤرة الإهتمام، لذا كان من واجب البحث إظهار الحضور القوي للفلسفة الخلقية في هذه الفلسفة، وبعد نظرها في إقامة تنظير أخلاقي لا يقل في جدته عن الفلسفات الأخلاقية قديماً وحديثاً.
تدور هذه الدراسة حول فلسفة الأخلاق عند إخوان الصفا، فهي تحوي جانباً أخلاقياً أساسياً في البناء الفلسفي العام لإخوان الصفا؛ إذ بالإمكان إستنتاج فلسفة خلقية تمثل مجموعة من المبادئ والقواعد المنظمة للسلوك الجماعي على نحو يقضي به إلى غاية معينة، وهذه الفلسفة ترتبط إرتباطاً وثيقاً بالعقيدة والمذهب؛ إستناداً إلى ان العقيدة الصحيحة هي التي تستمد منها الأخلاق قيمتها ومعناها، وهي التي ترسي قواعدها، وتمدها بالقيم.
ومن ثم فإن هذا البحث يهدف إلى إظهار الفلسفة الخلقية عند إخوان الصفا، وكذلك محاولة الكشف عن مكانتها بين غيرها من الفلسفات؛ ذلك أن هذه الفلسفة قد أقرت بالمنزلة السامية للأخلاق، ودورها الرائد في حياة الفرد والجماعة، كما يهدف هذا البحث إلى بيان مفهوم فلسفة الأخلاق عند إخوان الصفا، ومقوماتها الأساسية، والأسس التي تقوم عليها، والمعيار الأخلاقي الذي تحكم به على الفعل، وتفصل من خلاله بين الخير والشر - والإلزام الأخلاقي الذي يكون سلطة إلزامية تدفع للخير، وتبعد عن الشر، وغاية الأخلاق، وخصائص هذه الفلسفة.
