وقد حظيت الحاجات التربوية الخاصة بهذه الفئة من الطلبة بإهتمام متزايد في السنوات الأخيرة، حيث أصبحت هذه الفئة محط إهتمام العديد من المعلمين والأخصائيين والآباء وغيرهم، وقد تزامن ذلك مع تزايد الأبحاث العلمية حول الدماغ البشري، وتمثل ذلك بالعديد من النظريات والأبحاث التي سعت إلى إيجاد تفسير لهذه المشكلات، وتطوير الأساليب التعليمية التي تستطيع تلبية الحاجات الفريدة التي يعانون منها، وإعداد المعلمين والمدربين الأكفاء وتعديل البيئات التعليمية.
وبالتالي، فإن نظرية الذكاءات المتعددة تحاول تغيير طبيعة النظرة إلى الأفراد من خلال ذكائهم العام الذي يُقيّم قدراتهم اللفظية والمنطقية، والنظر إليهم على أنهم أشخاص يمتلكون قدرات مختلفة متمايزة تختلف من فرد إلى آخر؛ الأمر الذي يتطلب أن تنسجم الأساليب التدريسية معها من خلال التركيز على جوانب القوة وتنميتها لديهم.
ومن هنا، جاء هذا الكتاب في محاولة لعرض نظرية الذكاءات المتعددة كتصور حديث للذكاء الإنساني يمكن بواسطته تفسير ظاهرة صعوبات التعلم، وتوظيفها في علاج وتحسين ما يعانون منه من صعوبات أكاديمية وبطريقة تلبي الحاجات والفروق الفردية لديهم في التعلم من خلال تقديم برنامج تعليمي قائم نظرية الذكاءات المتعددة ينسجم مع مبادئ التربية الخاصة وتفريد التعلم بهدف بناء منهج دراسي يقوم على إستغلال جوانب القوة وتعزيزها وعلاج جوانب الضعف في قدرات الطالب وذلك وفق خطط فردية تربوية وتعليمية.
