"الأصولية" هي مصطلح بدأ تداوله في الغرب دلالة على إيمان بعض الإنجيليين بالكتاب المقدس ككلمة الله الخالدة، إلا أنه اتخذ عالمياً، يختلف من بلد إلى آخر، ومن سياق إلى سياق. واليوم تنعت الحركة الإسلامية الحديثة بصفات عدة أشهرها وأكثرها شيوعاً وتداولاً "الأصولية". وحتى لا يلتبس هذا المفهوم بما تحمله إياه وسائل الإعلام وبعض الساسة والمفكرين وخصوصاً الغربيين ومن نقل عنهم وتأثر بهم، فإن المؤلف يعد "الأصولية" حركة الدعوة إلى الأصول، القرآن والسنة، باعتبارهما النصوص التأسيسية الإسلامية التي يجب أن يرتكز عليها وينهض بها الدين والمجتمع والدولة. وهي حركة تدعو إلى تفكيك البنية التأسيسية للتاريخ، فتنكر شرعية إلزامية النظريات، وتحث على استخلاص المعنى الحقيقي للإسلام من النصوص المفسرة من منظور التجربة الحديثة لواقع الأمة ومعاناتها. انطلاقاً من هذه الرؤية يحاول المؤلف في هذا البحث ابتداء "شرح بنية الفكر الأصولي الإسلامي ومبادئه حول النظام الدولي والعلاقات الدولية، محدداً الشروط المطروحة من قبل الحركات الإسلامية للدخول في نظام دولي وإنشاء علاقات سياسية واقتصادية مع الدول غير الإسلامية وبالتالي مع النظام الدولي. من خلال هذا سيتم إلقاء بعض الضوء على النماذج والحالات والحوادث التي اعتبرها المفكرون الأصوليون الإسلاميون نتيجة لبنية النظام الدولي المعاصر ومرتكزاته والتي استعملوها للدلالة على صحة استراتيجيتهم أو على فساد النظام الدولي والتي أدت إلى إرساء توجهات عملية على المستوى الايديولوجي والاستراتيجي للحركة الإسلامية الأصولية وللدولة الإسلامية الثورية. وأخيراً اختتم هذا البحث برسم سيناريو العلاقات المستقبلية بين هذه الحركات وبين النظام الدولي.
