النظام السياسي من المعروف عند دراسته أن هناك وجهتي نظر أساسيتين: الأولى: وجهة النظر القانونية التي ترى أن النظام السياسي هو مؤسسة قانونية، وبالتالي فإن من يريد دراسته لا بد من دراسته في ميدان الدستوري.
الثانية: وجهة النظر الإجتماعية التي ترى أن النظام السياسي هو جزء من النظام الإجتماعي، فهو - إذن - تكوين إجتماعي، وبالتالي فإن من يريد دراسته لا بد من دراسته في ميدان علم الإجتماع السياسي.
صحيح أن هذا العلم (ونعني به علم الإجتماع السياسي) بإعتبار كونه علماً مشتركاً يثير تنازعاً في الإختصاص بين أن يكون حقلاً من حقول علم السياسة أو حقلاً من حقول علم الإجتماع، رغم أن توزع دراسة أية واقعة ما بين علمين أو أكثر ربما يؤدي هذا الإشتراك إلى ولادة علم جديد، - أو لنقل بدقيق العبارة: ولادة فرع جديد - تتجاذبه في أغلب الأحيان مغناطيسية كل علم من هذه العلوم التي اشتركت في دراسته لتدخله ضمن حقل إختصاصها على إعتباره أضحى ابنا شرعياً مضافاً إليها.
