هذا كتاب "فعلت وافعلت" لأبي حاتم السجستاني في عالم البصرة وأديبها الراوية اللغوي المقرئ المفسر المحدث المتوفي سنة 255هـ.
لقد إهتم علماء العربية بظاهرة "فعل وأفعل" فأولوها عنايتهم، لما لها من صلة بظاهرتي التعدي واللزوم في العربية من جهة، ولأنها أحد مظاهر اللهجات من جهة أخرى، وكان لكل من هؤلاء مروياته في هذا الباب... ولقد شاء أبو حاتم أن يدلو بدلوه ، فجمع شطراًغير قليل من مرويات شيوخه –في هذا الباب: ابي زيد وأبي عبيدة وكان حريصاً أن يتبيَن رأي الأصمعَي بادئ ذي بدء، ومن هنا جاء مصنفه (فعلت وأفعلت) حافلاً بكثير من آراء الرعيل الأول في رصد هذه الظاهرة مشفوعة بمروياتهم عنها.
يتناول الكتاب الحديث عن صيغة فعل وأفعل ويعالج ما ورد منها في كلام العرب، وقد أكد أبو حاتم في صدره أنه عرض مسائله على أستاذه الأصمعي فقال: "قال أبو حاتم سهل بن محمد السجستاني هذا باب فعلت وأفعلت بمعنى واحد عن عبد الملك بن قريب الأصمعي سألته حرفاً حرفاً". من هنا تتجلى أهمية الكتاب في الميدان اللغوي ذلك أنه يمثل وأشباهه حلقة من المؤلفات التي سبقت وضع المعجمات الكبرى فكان لها خير معين، أما مصادر الكتاب فهي لثلاثة علماء: الأصمعي وأبو زيد وأبو عبيدة.
عني بتحقيق وشرح كتاب (فعلت وأفعلت) لأبي حاتم السجستاني الدكتور "خليل إبراهيم العطية" بالإستناد إلى ثلاثة نسخ خطية تعود لدار الكتب المصرية، واقتصر عمله على: مقابلة النسخ والإشارة إلى ما بينهما من إختلاف وعرض مواد أفعاله على معجمات اللغة كاللسان والتاج والصحاح، بالإضافة إلى تخريج الأيات والأحاديث والأمثال والترجمة للأعلام الوارد ذكرهم في متن الكتاب.
