تجربة الأمة العربية على مدى الأربعين سنة الأخيرة، كانت تجربة تميزت بقيام أنظمة الحكم العربية بالعمل الدائب، بوعي أحياناً وبدون وعي في غالبية الأحيان الأخرى، على طمس الحقيقة والحيلولة دون تسجيل الوقائع بأمانة، وبالتالي الحيلولة دون تكوين ذاكرة جماعية عقلانية وسليمة. فبعد مرور أربعين عاماً على فقدان الجزء الأول من فلسطين لا زلنا لا نعلم تماماً كيف سقطت يافا وكيف سقط الجليل وما هو الدور الذي قام به كل جيش من الجيوش العربية التي "هبّت لنجدة فلسطين".
وبعد مرور عشرين عاماً على هزيمة حزيران لا زلنا نعيش في ظلام بالنسبة لما حدث على الجبهات العربية المختلفة وخلف كواليس المفاوضات.
وبعد مرور حوالي سبعة عشر عاماً على وفاة الرئيس عبد الناصر لا زلنا لا نعرق كيف تعاملت أجهزة المخابرات المصرية في عهده مع أصدقائها وأعدائها.
وفي حمى العمل الدؤوب على طمس الحقيقة وحرمان الأمة العربية من تكوين ذاكرة جماعية سليمة، اندفعت غالبية الأنظمة العربية نحو طمس حقائق الواقع من ناحية، والمغالاة في تمجيد تجارب الماضي البعيد من ناحية ثانية. وبذلك أصبحت الجماهير العربية في موقع فرض عليها إما القبول بذاكرة رسمية هي حصيلة تجارب مصطنعة وتحليلات مختلفة، أو الارتماء في أحضان ذاكرة عاطفية لا تمت لواقع حياة الجماهير بصلة.
وفي غياب الذاكرة الجماعية التي تربط الأمة بماضيها القريب ذا الصلة بالواقع والمستقبل، تحطمت البوصلة وضلّت السفينة طريقها وأضحى الركاب تحت رحمة الأقدار.
هذا الكتاب هو محاولة لإعادة ربط الأمة بماضيها القريب ومساعدتها على التعرف على عناصر ذاكرتها الجماعية، والاستهداء على بوصلة المستقبل، وبالتالي السير على هدى ذاكرة جماعية سليمة، هي ذاكرة العقل الواعي لا العاطفة، ذاكرة الحقيقة لا زيف الحقيقة.
