يقول ميشال ريفاتير أن الظاهرة الأدبية ما هي إلا علاقة جدلية بين النص والمتلقي وهو وصف أكثر انطباقا على الظاهرة المسرحية التي تتشكل من عناصر ثلاثة هي : النص الدرامي والعرض المسرحي والجمهور.
وتظهر ضرورة البحث عن إطار منهجي يجمع بين الإهتمام بالنصية وبالتلقي في قراءة النصوص وهو احتياج تستجيب له السيميائيات بمختلف فروعها لأنها تسمح بتحويل النقد الأدبي من مجرد تأملات وانطباعات إلى علم بالمعنى الدقيق فهي تنظر إلى النص على أنه مجموعة من العلاقات التي تتشكل وفق قوانين محددة يسعى التحليل للكشف عنها وعن العلاقات التي تربط بينها. ولا تفصل بين النص والمحيط الذي يظهر فيه بل تسعى للكشف عن العلاقات التي تربط بينها. ولا تفصل بين النص والمحيط الذي يظهر فيه, بل تسعى للكشف عن العلاقات التي تربط بينه – بوصفه نسقاً أو نظاماً – وغيره من الأنظمة الأخرى وتأثيره فيها.
وهذه الدراسة تطمح من بين ما تطمح إليه إلى إعادة ربط النقد الأكاديمي بالمسرح والتأسيس لرؤية جديدة في قراءة النص الدرامي.
