إن الفلسفة والعلم يعملان على تحفيز الذات لبلوغ أعمق ماهياتها وأقصى إمكانياتها، فالفلسفة في جوهرها فاعلية عقلية، وموقف إنتقادي من الوجود، ومنهج في التساؤل يستهدف فحص الوجود بكل مكوناته وأبعاده لكشف غموضه وسبر أغوره.
كما تعد الفلسفة وفقاً لغايتها التاريخية أسمى العلوم جميعاً وأدقها لكونها تمثل مطلب الإنسانية الدائم في المعرفة الخالصة والمطلقة على حد تعبير هوسرل، كما ظلت الفلسفة من جهة أخرى منشغلة بإعادة الإنسان إلى إنسانيته حسب ريكور، إنها كفاح من أجل معنى الإنسان، وظل العلم يبحث عما يحقق رفاهية الإنسان من خلال السيطرة على الطبيعة وتوسيع دائرة حريته، غير أن سؤال جدوى الفلسفة يعاود الظهور دائماً لا سيما في عالمنا اليوم الذي صار مشبعاً بالروح التقنية التي سكنت جسد العلم حتى صار مشبعاً بالروح التقنية التي سكنت جسد العلم حتى صار خطاب العلم مضاداً للفلسفة، والذي لا يرى فيها إلا وجوداً عابراً أو لحظة تاريخية تجاوزها العقل العلمي، وهذا ما يؤكد خطورة نسيان العلم للفلسفة.
فالعلم بنسيانه للفلسفة ينسى أساسه الحقيقي ويغترب عنه كما قال هيدجر، ومن هنا كان من الضروري أن نعرف جوهر الفلسفة في العلم وجوهر العلم في الفلسفة، ونقف بالتالي على طبيعة العلاقة بينهما التي اتخذت طابع الصدام والخصام أحياناً، كما اتخذت طابع الحوار والتلاقي في كثير من الأحيان، إلا أنها مع ذلك ظلت علاقة متميزة لا تخرج عن إطار علاقة الأم بأبنائها.
