تسعى هذه الدراسة لتجيب عن سؤال جوهري لعله يمثل جوهرياً ومركز قضاياها، كما يجيب عن مفهوم الدراسة الذي يشكل جدلية العلاقة بين النظر والتطبيق، وبين الشاهد واستنتاج التحليل، وبين الظاهر والباطن، ثم أخيراً بين البنية السطحية بكل تشكلاتها للرسالة، وبين بنيتها العميقة التي تحدد انتمائها للزمان والمكان العمانيين في عصر الشاعر والقصيدة، وذاكرة الباحث وهو يحفر في العلوم من أجل معلوم آخر لعله الجواب في نهاية هذا العمل المتواضع.
وعليه فقد سعى هذا العمل لبناء تلك العناصر المكونة للصورة الشعرية في بنية القصيدة العمانية الحديثة "1990 - 1980م" من خلال مدخل ومهاد وسبعة فصول. فالمدخل كان لمحة موجزة للوضع التي كانت تعيشه القصيدة في تفاعل مع الظروف السياسية والاقتصادية والإجتماعية والثقافية.
وأما المهاد فقد تناول المعنى الوظيفي الذي تقوم به الصورة الشعرية. وضح الفصل الأول "الصورة الإيقاعية"، وناقش الفصل الثاني الجوانب التركيبية المكونة للقصيدة، أما الفصل الثالث فق اختص بالجانب التخييلي، وتناوله الباحث عبر مبحثين: 1- مرجعية الصورة، 2- ثم أبعادها التصويرية. وأما الفصل الرابع فقد اختص بالمستوى المعجمي؛ لكونه جزءاً مهماً في بناء القصيدة. واهتم الفصل الخامس بالوظيفة الدلالية للصورة. ويأتي الفصل السادس ليرسم صورة هيكلة القصيدة، أما الفصل السابع فجاء ليناقش المورث الثقافي الديني والشعري. وأفرزت الخاتمة لنتائج البحث التي رصدها المؤلف ضمن مكونات الصورة المرتبطة بواقع القصيدة العمانية الحديثة "1990-1980م" في مستوييها العمودي والحداثي.
