أعد الكتاب الأب نادر ميشيل اليسوعي وذلك بالاستناد إلى عرض تمّ في ندوات جمعت حوالي مائتي شخص من علمانيين ورهبانٍ وراهبات والجليريكيّين يمثلون أعماراً مختلفة، ويأتون من خلفياتس روحية متباينة، وقد وجدوا في سيرة الندوات ما ينير مشاعرهم ودور الصداقة في طريق نموهم الإنساني الشخصي، وما يساعدهم على مراجعة نوعية علاقاتهم وصداقاتهم، وما يوضح لهم طبيعة علاقتهم بالله ومعالم الخبرة الروحية.
ينقسم الكتاب "الصداقة فرح وحياة" إلى ثلاثة فصول، يشرح الفصل الأول ماذا تعني كلمة الصداقة كرباط إنساني وروحي، فضلاً عن أسسها ومقوماتها، ثم بيان كونها تمثل طريقاً نحو الله والآخرين. ويتوقف الفصل الثاني عند الأزمات والاختلالات التي قد تصيب الصداقة وسبل الحفاظ عليها وعبور مشاكلها وصعوباتها. وينطلق الفصل الثالث من الروحانية الإغناطية كما يعرّفها القديس إغناطيوس دي لويولا في كتابه "الرياضيات الروحية" بقصد توضيح أسس الصداقة بين يسوع المسيح وبين المؤمنين، ويستكمل الفصل المسيرة مع إنجيل يوحنا وسرّ صداقة يسوع للمؤمنين وفي نهاية كل فصل يقدم الكتاب أسئلة للمساعدة على التعملق الشخصي والمشاركة الجماعية، والغاية النهائية للكتاب نور أعمق مع الذات وصدق أشد مع الله والآخرين.
