في روايته "رحلةُ العمر" ينطلق الدكتور عبد المجيد وهبي في رؤيته النقدية، للواقع اللبناني، من منظور يتعامل مع النص الأدبي بوصفه إنتاجاً مشبعاً بالدلالات الإجتماعية والتاريخية، فتفسير الأحداث في ضوء الشروط الإجتماعية، هو أكثر تعبيراً عن بنية مجتمعية متعددة، سوف تظهر آثارها على حياة شخوص الرواية وأبرزها الشخصيتين الرئيسيتين في العمل "ميرا" و"قاسم" ليطرح من خلالهما الروائي موضوع الزواج المختلط وما يمكن أن يترتب عليه من نتائج، حيث يرصد مسار العلاقة بين زوجين مختلفين دينياً، أحبا بعضهما، وليكون هذا الحب سبباً في فراقهما!!...
تتوالى الأحداث في الرواية، لتكشف عن تبني عائلة لوفافر (ميشال وجيزيل) لابنه ميرا، وإنتقال الأب سامي إلى فرنسا، بعد أن قطع الأمل بالعثور على زوجته ميرا التي اختفت من ظروف غامضة، فيصبح هاجسه البحث عنها وعن ابنته (ماري)، التي سوف تصبح طبيبة، من دون أن تعرف أنها ابنة متبناه، وبعد مخاض طويل تعود ماري وتتعرف إلى أبيها ويعودان إلى لبنان... لتكون البداية والنهاية في رحلة العمر...
هذه الأحداث تقاطعاً وإفتراقاً جرى التعبير عنها بلغة روائية سردية مرئية، تبتعد عن الإنشائية، ولا تخلو من الشعرية، الراوي فيها عليماً ومشاركاً، ولعل هذا ما يمنح الرواية إختلافها عن السائد الروائي، لا يعدم من يقرأها من المتعة والفائدة والحكمة.
عن رحلة العمر، إحساس أديب مبدع أنسن الفكرة، وراح يستودعها أفكاره وعواطفه ووجدانه تبياناً وتعريفاً بمداد قصصي النفد للتقاليد، والمساحيق الاجتماعية، من أعلى الهرم إلى أخمص ما يدور في قاع الحياة.
