قريباً سيتساءل الناس هل سيجدون دائرة أمام بابهم وهم ذاهبون إلى العمل. إن صاحب الدوائر الزرقاء ممازح متبجح أو مخبول حقيقي، وإن كان ما ينشد الشهوة فقد حصل عليها... لكنه شيخ حقيقي. لم يفاجئه أحد بعد وهو يخط دوائره الواسعة الزرقاء على الإسمنت، فهو لا يقوم بذلك كل ليلة ويختار كيفما اتفق أحد أحياء باريس".
إنه الحدث المثير في هذه الرواية هو أن رجلاً.. يخط دائرة كبيرة بالطبشور الأزرق يقارب قطرها المترين حول بقايا متروكة على الرصيف (الضحايا). الأمر الغريب الذي يحدث هو أن هذه الأشياء التي يضعها هذا الشخص ضمن دائرة تكون مفردة ويمكن وضع لائحة خاصة بها فعي تشمل دزينة من أغطية زجاجات البيرة، بقايا خضار، لقد أصبح لغز هذا الرجل حديث مجتمعات العاصمة. وهذا ما يسعى المفوض آدامسبرغ إلى حله ومعرفته من خلال مغامرات شيقة وتحليلات، تذكر بأساليب شرلوك هولمز. الرواية بوليسية وهي تعود بالذامرة إلى الروايات البوليسة الشهيرة التي عرفها قراء العربية منذ عقود مضت.
