لم تجر العادة بأن يتولّى القاص مهمّة التقديم لقصصه، لكنني سأغامر بتقديمها، اقتناعًا مني بأن هذا النّكوص يشتمل على كثير من التطهريّة الزائدة؛ فما أجمل العودة إلى القصص الأولى وما أقساها! جميلة لأنها تعيدك إلى زمن البراءة والحماسة والانطباعات الأولى في الكتابة، وقاسية لأنها تذكرك بعدد السنوات التي انقضت والتجارب المرّة التي طردت الأحاسيس البريئة. ولعلّني، ما كنت لأجرؤ على استعادة ماضيّ القصصي بعد أن أقمت في منازل النقد والنقّاد، لولا أن ثلّة من الأصدقاء والصديقات، شعراء وقصّاصين وروائيين ونقادًا، لم يتوقّفوا عن الإعراب عن عتبهم الشديد عليّ، لأنني هجرت كتابة القصة القصيرة بوجه عام، ولأنني لم أبذل ما يكفي من الجهد لإعادة طباعة مجموعتيّ القصصيتين (نقوش البياض) و(ليالي شهريار) بوجه خاص، بعد أن مرّ على طباعة الأولى 24 عامًا ومرّ على طباعة الثانية 21 عامًا، ونفدت نسخهما.
