القومية العربية ليست قومية حديثة أو مستحدثة، بل تعود إلى عشرات القرون من عمر التاريخ الإنساني، وتكمن أصالتها في عُمقها وتجذّرها التاريخي هذا، وفي الحضارات التي انبثقت عنها عبر محطات تاريخها المتعدّدة، وفي مقدمة تلك المحطات: الإسلام.
وإذا كانت القومية العربية هي مرآة الأمة العربية، مرآة الهوية الثقافية والتاريخية والجغرافية لأبناء تلك الأمة، العاكسة لخصوصياتهم وتميّزهم عن سواهم، والمعبِّرة عن إرادتهم ورسالتهم وآمالهم، فإن صدق هذا الإنتماء لا يظهر إلا أمام التحديات الجسام، أو حين تكون الأمة في حالة من الضعف والتشتت، أو عُرضة للافتتات والعدوان.
وفي هذه الأيام، حيث الحديث الطاغي هو حديث "التهابات"، تترد على الأسماع بكثرة عبارات من قبيل: "نهاية التاريخ"، "نهاية الحضارة"، "نهاية الدولة"، "نهاية الإيديولوجيا"، "نهاية الأمة"، "نهاية القومية"... إلخ.
يمتاز هذا الكتاب الصادر في مثل هذا الوقت بالذات بفضيلتين اثنتين: فعدا عن فضيلته المتمثلة في إيراده بإستفاضة وتفصيل أركان القومية وثوابتها، تُسجل له فضيلة أخرى، وهي أنه مطالعة دفاعية حارّة عن هذه الثوابت وتجديد الإلتزام الصادق بها في هذه المرحلة الدقيقة والمصيرية من حياة أمتنا، إدراكاً من صاحبه أن تلك الثوابت / الأركان هي الحدود التي يجب أن تمارس داخلها وتحت سقفها الصراعات الفكرية والفلسفية والعقائدية مع الذات ومع الآخر على السواء، وهي خط الدفاع الأخير عن الهوية العربية وخصائصها من شرور الحضارة الغربية / الصهيونية الآخذة بالتفشي في جسم الإنسانيّة.
ولا بد أن تبقى بمعزل عن أي إهتزاز رغم الأمواج العاتية عن المتغيّرات التي تقذفها علينا ظاهرة العولمة بقيمها المادية المتوحشة التي ضربت القيم الإنسانية في الصميم.
