لقد جاء الكتاب مشتملاً على ستة أبواب، تضمن الباب الأول (فن التدريس)، وتناول الفصل الثاني (طرائق التدريس العامة). أما الباب الثاني فتضمن فصلين، تناول الفصل الأول (طرائق تدريس القواعد)، وهي كثيرة اختير منها الطريقة الاستقرائية، والطريقة القياسية، وطريقة النص، وطريقة تحليل الجملة، والطريقة التكاملية، مع الدروس الأنموذجية. أما الفصل الثاني فتضمن طرائق تدريس الإملاء، مع الدروس الأنموذجية. وجاء الباب الثالث متضمناً فصلاً واحداً (طرائق تدريس القراءة)، مع درس أنموذجين لكل من القراءة في المرحلة الأساسية، والمطالعة في المرحلة الثانوية. وجاء الباب الرابع مشتملاً على فصلين هما (طرائق تدريس الأدب، وطرائق تدريس النصوص الأدبية) مع دروسهما الأنموذجية. في حين تضمن الباب الخامس ثلاثة فصول هي (طرائق تدريس البلاغة، وطرائق تدريس النقد الأدبي، وطرائق تدريس العروض)، مع الدروس الأنموذجية حول كل مادة. أما الباب السادس فتضمن فصلين، تناول الفصل الأول (التعبير، مفهومه، وأنواعه ومشكلاته، وتصحيحه، وأسسه). وتناول الفصل الثاني (طرائق تدريس التعبير)، بنوعيه الشفوي والتحريري، مع الدروس الأنموذجية لهما.
