إن نيتشه وهو الفقيه اللغوي بالأساس يحترف ويكثر من إستعمال الأقنعة، لا بل يخفي أهدافه عن قصد وراء كمّ هائل من الإستعارات والمجاز والسخرية متبعاً إستراتيجية تهدف إلى منع الرعاع والعامة من فهم خطابه، لذلك فإن الخطاب النيتشوي يتوجه فقط إلى القلة المختارة، أي تلك التي قامت ببذل جهد كبير واتَّبعت أسلوب المنقّبين في الحفر عميقاً في حقائق الأشياء.
وكل هذا يجعل من الفلسفة النيتشوية فلسفة بالغة الصعوبة والعمق، وزاخرة بآراء تبدو للوهلة الأولى على أنها متناقضة، لكن نظرة لامّة إلى فلسفة نيتشه جُملة، سوف تظهر مدى إنسجام أسلوب نيتشه في التفلسف مع ذاته ومع أهدافه.
فالفيلسوف على حد قوله: هو الذي يجب أن يكون كل شيء تقريباً، أي ناقداً وريبياً ومؤرخاً وشاعراً ورحالة وهاوي ألغاز وأخلاقياً وروحاً حراً... وعليه أن ينظر بعيون وضمائر مختلفة.
كما أن حجب هذه الفلسفة عن العامة يمكن فهمها على أنها وسيلة هدفها الحفاظ على قيمة هذه الفلسفة وتفردّها، وإبعادها عن الفلسفات التقليدية التي كان معظمها لاهوتاً مقنعاً ولم تقف بالكشف عن أصل القيم حتى بدت لها سهلة الفهم وغير معقدة لكنها في الحقيقة أبعد ما تكون عن البساطة، إذ أن الزعم بوجود حقائق تتصف بالبساطة ليس برأي نيتشه سوى إفتراءاً مضاعفاً.
في السنوات القليلة الماضية تزايد الإهتمام بقضية الكرامة الإنسانية سواء في أدبيات العلاج النفسي، أو كدعاية للحركات السياسية التحررية، او الحركات النسوية التي تدافع عن حرية المرأة، أو عند الأقليات الإثنية والطائفية وحقها في العيش بكرامة.
بيد أن ما يميز بحث نيتشه في الكرامة عن هؤلاء هو فصله الواضح بين مفهوم الكرامة كحق فطري مكتسب والكرامة كإنجاز ومشروع يتطلب جهداً كبيراً لتحقيقه، وهذا الكتاب هو بحث حول إمكان إنجاز هذا المشروع وأبعاده الأخلاقية.
