يجمع هذا الكتاب بين طياته فهرسةً لأحاديث وآثار "مجمع الزوائد" الذي لا تكاد مكتبة في بيت تخلو منه لحاجة طالب العلم الشريف إليه، عدا عن باحث ومحقق ومخرج. وما هذا الفهرس إلا لتيسير البحث على كل من يعلم قيمة الوقت في حياة طالب العلم الشريف، وما نظن مشتغلاً بهذا العلم يستغني عنه؛ إذ تجد المعجم المفهرس وغيره لا يتطرّق له. وحتى يكون ميسراً يوفي بالغرض المطلوب منه.
وبالرجوع إلى منهاج الفهرس نجد أنه تمّ فهرسة جميع الأحاديث والآثار القولية والفعلية الواردة فيه وفقاً لترتيب حروف المعجم أولاً، ثم ترتيب أحاديث كل راوٍ على حِدة حسب حروف المعجم أيضاً أما الخطة التي اعتمدها المُعد للفهرس فتجلت بما يلي: أولاً أثبت طرق الحديث سواءً كان قولياً أو فعلياً. ثانياً: عني بتجزئة الأحاديث التي اشتملت على عدة أحكام. ثالثاً: أثبت اسم راوي الحديث واسم الكتاب الذي ورد فيه واسم الباب أيضاً. رابعا: أسقط اعتبار "أل" التعريف في أول متن الحديث واعتبرها في بقية المتن. خامساً: اعتبر الألف المقصورة "ى" ألفاً ورتبها بعدد المعدود لأنها الأصل...
