كان ابن تيمية موسوعة علمية تمشي على الأرض حتى عند خصومه، وهذا إن دل على شيء فإنما يدل على أنه كان عالم زمانه. ليس في مجال الدين والدفاع عن العقيدة فحسب، بل في مختلف العلوم، حيث رد على الفلاسفة والمناطقة وأبان أن كثيراً من هؤلاء المضلين قصدوا إبطال الشؤيعة، وتضليل الناس في أصول دينهم فلذا فقد صرف ابن تيمية جل همه إلى الأصول ذباً عن الملة الحنيفة والسنَة الجليلة، فما لا يتم الواجب إلا به فهو واجب.
في هذا الكتاب يناقش الشيخ الدكتور خالد عبد القادر الشبهات التي طالت ابن تيمية من خصومه في جوانب متعددة في العقيدة (عقيدة ابن تيمية)، وقد قسَم البحث في هذا الموضوع إلى ثلاثة أقسام:
القسم الأول: يتضمن دراسة مختصرة عن نشأة "إبن تيمية" وشخصيته، وعلومه، وزهده، وعبادته، وجهاده، ومحنه، وشيوخه، ومصنعاته، ووفاته.
القسم الثاني: ويتضمن ما جاء من "مفتريات" بحق إبن تيمية مثل قول بعضهم بأن إبن تيمية كان رافضياً، وقول بعضهم الآخر: إنه كان ناصياً، ومنهم من قال كان يعظم أهل البيت، وآخرون قالوا أنه خطأ علياً؟... إلخ.
وأما القسم الثالث: فيحتوي على شبهات أثيرت حول فكرة دعا إليها، أو فتوى قال بها، من قبل خصومه مما لم يعقلوه، أو عقلوه ولكنهم حرفوه لصرف الناس عنه، ومحاصرته...
ثم كان للمؤلف وقفات مع الخصوم لبيان تخبطهم وتناقضهم، وعدم مصداقيتهم في طرحهم الفكري، مظهراً ذلك بأدلة من كتبهم وفتاويهم، لذلك سوف يلحظ القارئ لهذا الكتاب أن هؤلاء يوردون التهمة ونقيضها، وهذا دليل على إستخدامهم طرق متناقضة أثناء تعاملهم مع النصوص أو أقوال الأئمة وللتأكيد على ذلك فقد إستخدم المؤلف كتبهم ولم يصغ لأي قول إشتهر عن فلان ولم يجده مسطوراً في أحد كتبه.
