يحتل علم الأخلاق مرتبة هامة في الحياة الإنسانية لصلته الدائمة في أفعال الإنسان، وفي مختلف الشؤون الحياتية، فلا يوجد حقل من الحقول العلمية، وميداناً من ميادين الحياة، إلا ويحتاج إلى الأخلاق، وبحسب الفكر الإسلامي الإمامي "يبقى العالم الرباني مسؤولاً بشكل أساسي عن تطبيق التعاليم السماوية، وذلك لأن حاجة الناس إلى الدين ومن يرشدهم إليه حاجة دائمة لا يستغني عنها الإنسان".
وإنطلاقاً من هذا المبدأ دأب مؤلف الكتاب إلى معالجة أهم القضايا التربوية والأخلاقية التي يحتاج إليها المسلم في حياته بالإستناد إلى الدروس الحوزوية التي تلقاها في علم الأخلاق، وأخرجها في كتابه الموسوم "علم الأخلاق والتربية" وعقد البحث في فصول عدة تكلم خلالها على طبيعة الإنسان بين الخير والشر، وقابلية الإنسان لبلوغ كماله النوعي، ثم توقف عند موانع النفس من بلوغها كمالها الإنساني، وتحدث أيضاً عن المدلول الأخلاقي اللغوي والإصطلاحي، والدراسات التربوية والأخلاقية القديمة والحديثة، والفروقات بين التربية والأخلاق والعرفان.
وتسلط الضوء على المستوى الأخلاقي عند الشعوب الأوروبية، ثم توقف عند الإتجاهات الأخلاقية في المجتمع العربي قديماً وحديثاً واختتم كتابه بالحديث عن حفظ الأئمة للتراث الأخلاقي ومنهج علمائهم في علم الأخلاق وأثره في الدراسات التربوية والفقهية...
