مصنف هذه القصيدة هو أبو فراس الحارث بن أبي العلاء سعيد -ولي الموصل وديار ربيعة من قبل المقتدر العباسي- بن حمدان بن حمدون الحمداني. ولد سنة 320هـ بمنبج (بلدة بين حلب والفرات)، فنشأ فارساً مقداماً شاعراً كريماً ممتازاً بالفضل والأدب، جامعاً بين إمارتي السيف والقلم، امتاز شعره بالسلاسة والرقة والحسن والسهولة، لا سيما قصائده (الروميات) حتى قيل: هو أشعر من عبد الله بن المعتز، وشهد بعبقريته الصاحب بن عباد بقوله: (بدئ الشعر بملك وختم بملك)، يعني امرأ القيس، وأبا فراس. فمن شعره قصيدته الميمية التي بين يدينا شرحها الوجيز، وفيها يرد على قصيدة محمد بن سكرة الهاشمي التي تعرض بها للعلويين ونال منهم.
