هذه الدراسة من نتاج عصر حوار الحضارات الدينية في القرن 15 هـ / 21 م، ليت لنا مثلها في القرن 1هـ / 7م، إذ استشرى الصراع بين الحضارات، وحروب الفتوح على قدم وساق، فقد واجهت الدولة العربية الدولتين الكبريين، اكتسحت الدولة الفارسية، واستولت على أراض مهمة من الدولة البيزنطية، في بضع عشرة سنة، واستحوذت على الأضواء السياسية والدينية، لوقفنا – عن كثب – على الخارطة الدينية آنذاك، وتعرفنا إلى تطور الحراك الإسلامي المسيحي، وحقيقة العلاقات الدينية والاجتماعية، في ظل النظام السياسي الإسلامي. إن بقاء المسيحية والإسلام يحتلان المساحة الكبرى على خارطة الأديان منذ قرون، كان مدعاة لانبثاق الموضوع، وكادت طبيعة التعامل بينهما تعطيهما ديمومة التفوق في البقاء، ومن هنا احتاجت إلى بيان وتفسير، لذا رشح عنوان ''العلاقات الإسلامية المسيحية في القرن الأول الهجري / السابع الميلادي – بحث في جذور الفكر الإسلامي والممارسة التاريخية)). أخذ البحث يعنى بأنواع العلاقات التي يتجلى من خلالها طبيعة التعامل المسيحي الإسلامي، وتعايش أصحاب الدينين، ويرسم حدود الحراك المسيحي، في بيئة صدر الإسلام في مختلف العلاقات.
