لقد تنوعت أساليب العيش كثيراً وأصبحت متطلباتها واسعة على الفرد. فلذا يكون الفرد عرضة إلى الإصابة بالمشاكل النفسية، التي قد تأتي إلى كل واحد منا على وجه هذه الأرض، فهنا يظهر السؤال التالي:
كيف نتقبلها ونتحمل مسؤولياتنا تجاه أنفسنا وتجاه الآخرين الذين نعيش معهم؟
فهناك نوعان من الأشخاص شخص عنده القدرة على تحمل المشاكل النفسية وشخص قد تكون قدرته غير كافية لتحمل هذه الأمراض، ومن الطبيعي أن نرجع إلى الطفولة في الثلاث سنوات الأولى وكذلك مرحلة المراهقة، حيث فيها يتطور الفرد وتنمو أبعاد شخصيته، فلذلك يظهر هنا دور الأبوين الفعال والواسع في تنمية شخصية أطفالهم علماً أن هنالك الكثير من الآباء لا يهتمون بذلك مطلقاً. وهذا نابع عن جهلهم بأصول التربية النفسية الصحيحة والتطورات التي يمر بها كل طفل خلال مراحل نموه وتقدمه في الحياة، والنتيجة تكون وهو إما يظهر لنا شخص رقيق لا يستطيع أن يتحمل الأمراض النفسية التي قد تعتريه في حياته اليومية أو شخص ذو صلابة نفسية يستطيع أن يتعامل مع هذه الأمراض بصورة فعالة.
