تشير الدراسات الخاصة بثقافة الأطفال من حيث طبيعتها ووظائفها, إلى أن معظم هذه الثقافة يتمحور حول أدب الأطفال بالنظر لوضعه المتميز, واعتباره وسيلة ثقافية تربوية فعالة, ينجذب إليها الأطفال برغبة ويتفاعلون معها بحرية ومتعة. ولذلك تعاظمت أهمية أدب الأطفال في العصر لحديث, وازداد الاهتمام به في البلدان المتقدمة والنامية, ولا سيما في النصف الثاني من القرن العشرين, وقد تجلى هذا الاهتمام في مظاهر متعددة, شملت زيادة كتب أدب الأطفال, وتشجيع كتاب أدب الأطفال بالمكافآت والجوائز, توسيع الحلقات والندوات الخاصة بأدب الأطفال. ويعالج هذا الكتاب كرافد تربوي فعال لا يمكن تجاهله في إطار الثقافة الطفلية ولكن وفق شروط ومعايير يستند إليها وخصائص وميزات يتمتع بها لكي يؤدي وظائفه ضمن أساليب توظيف جيدة تتيح تحقيق الأهداف التثقيفية والتربوية بالشكل المطلوب. ومن أهم ما تناوله الكتاب: الثقافة وثقافة الاطفال, أدب الأطفال, أهمية أدب الأطفال وخصائصه, أدب الأطفال بين المحلية والعالمية, أدب الأطفال والفعل التربوي, أدب الأطفال في سورية, اختياركتب الأطفال وتوظيفها.
