الكلام معرفة النفس ما عليها من العقائد المنسوبة إلى دين الإسلام عن الأدلة علماً وظناً في البعض منها، وتعيين محال وجوب العلم كمعرفته تعالى وصفاته الذاتية والظن كبعض شروط النبوة وكيفية إعادة المعدوم والسؤال في القبر من خارج (أي أن هذه الأشياء المذكورة لا تؤخذ من تعريفه للكلام وإنما تؤخذ من خارجه). وحول الكلام وعلمه يأتي هذا الكتاب الذي يقول المؤلف فيه بأنه إنما كان في أول أمره يعمل على قراءة الرسالة القدسية للإمام الحجة أبي حامد الغزالي، وذلك بقصد اختصارها، إلا أنه وعند شروعه لم يستمر في ذلك إلا نحو ورقتين حيث تعرض لخاطره استحسان زيادات، ولم يزل يزداد حتى خرج عن القصد، أي اختصار الرسالة القدسية، وتحول ذلك إلى كتاب اختار له عنواناً وهو "المسايرة في علم الكلام والعقائد التوحيدية المنجية في الآخرة"، والكتاب يشابه كتاب الرسالة القدسية في تراجمه مضافاً إليها خاتمة ومقدمة، ويذكر المؤلف بأنه بالغ في توضيح وتسهيل الكتاب الأصل إذ أن الهدف من تأليفه هو للتسهيل على الأوساط والمبتدئين، هذا وينحصر كتاب المسايرة، بعد المقدمة، في أربعة أركان وخاتمة في الإيمان والإسلام وما يتصل بهما: الركن الأول في ذات الله تعالى، والثاني في صفاته، والثالث في أفعاله، والرابع في صدق الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم وينحصر كل ركن في عشرة أصول. الركن الأول في معرفة الله وينحصر في عشرة أصول، وهي العلم بوجود الله، وقِدَمِه، وبقائه، وأنه ليس بجوهر، ولا جسم، ولا عرض، ومختص بجهة، ولا مستقر على مكان، وأنه يرى، وأنه واحد.
