أراد مؤلف هذا الكتاب أن يعرق القارئ بتقنيات القص في القصة القصيرة الأردنية وهي تقنيات يلجأ إليها الكاتب لخلق الشكل الفني الذي يريد. والمؤلف يتتبع ذلك عبر دراسة معمقة من القصص المنتقاة وفقاً لتقسيم تاريخي عمد إليه وراعى أن يكون ممثلاً لتطور استخدام تقنيات القص المتعددة. والكتاب يتألف من قسمين: القسم الأول تضمن الدراسة التي حدد فيها المؤلف المنهج الذي اتبعه في الدراسة والتي لخصت رؤيته لفن القص وتقنياته.
أما القسم الثاني فتناول تقنيات القص لدى الرواد الأوائل، الرواد الشباب، والجيل الجديد كما راعى تقنيات القص كما وردت في المنتج القصصي السنوي الأردني في مسعى واضح لإبراز هذا المنتج. وفي هذا القسم الذي كرسه لدراسة لغة القصة القصيرة في الأردن، فبدأ بدراسة لعطاء (الجيل الثاني) الذي نقل القصة القصيرة في الأردن من كونها حكاية إلى قصة حديثة قابلة لأن تحلل وتناقش. وتشمل ذلك نتاج محمود شقير وجمال أبو حمدان، عدي مدانات، سمير التل، إبراهيم العبسي، زاليخة أبو ريشة، محمد طملية، سامية عطعوط، محمد عيد. وقدم دراسة تطبيقية اعتمدت تحليل وتفكيك البنية اللغوية في قصة (لارا المنافي) لأحمد عودة.
