يعالج هذا البحث مفهوم الوحي عند المجادلين المسيحيين. ذلك لأن المجادلة كانت في الأساس حول الدين الحق، أي الدين المنزل من عند الله. مفهوم حقيقة الدين يقاس على مفهوم الوحي. ويرادف مصطلح الوحي مصطلح التنزيل ومصطلح التوقيف. ومن مفهوم الدين الحق ينتج أن غيره مما يدعي ديناً ليس من الدين في شيء، وليس له من الدين سوى الاسم الذي أطلقه عليه أهله. وذلك لأنه، لما كان الله واحداً، وجب أن يكون الدين الذي ينزله واحداً. فكما كثرة الآلهة، في اعتقاد من يعتقدها، تؤدي إلى كثرة الأديان، كذلك الاعتقاد بوحدانية الله يستتبع الاعتقاد بوحدانية الدين.
ولما كان كل دين يدعي أنه هو الدين الحق، وجب الرجوع إلى ما يمكن من معرفة الدين الحق من الأديان الباطلة. ولما كانت حقيقة الدين تعني تنزيله من عند الله، وجب الرجوع إلى مكونات الوحي لمعرفة التنزيل الإلهي من الافتعال البشري. فعملية التمييز هذه تنظر في محتوى الوحي، وفي الوسيط بين الله والناس، للتحقق من أن الكلام الذي ينقله الوسيط هو كلام الله وليس كلام بشر، ولو اتخذ بالضرورة هيئة كلام بشري.
وكما أسلفنا يقتصر هذا البحث على معالجة مفهوم الوحي عند المجادلين المسيحيين فيبحث في مواضع خمسة: الوحي فعلاً ورسالة، الرسل، أو المرسل حامل الوحي، المرسل إليهم، علامات الرسالة، علامات الرسول.
