كتاب "عنوان الدراية فيمن عرف من العلماء في المائة السابعة ببجاية" للعلامة المؤرخ المحقق الشيخ أبي العباس الغبريني، من أهم المصادر التاريخية في المكتبة العربية عن الحياة العلمية في القرن السابع الهجري في بجاية، بالمغرب الأوسط، وسجل حافل بتراجم عشرات العلماء والمؤرخين والأدباء والشعراء وغيرهم ممن عرفتهم المدينة من مشاهير أعلام الجزائر وتونس والمغرب والأندلس.
أما ميزة هذا الكتاب عن غيره من كتب التراجم والسير، هي الشمول في التعريف بغير شيوخ المؤلف، وتسجيله لبعض الأحداث التاريخية، وإثباته لبعض النماذج الشعرية والنثرية المنسوبة للمترجم لهم... زد على ذلك، أنه حفظ لنا صورة صادقة عن الحياة العقلية في مدينة بجاية في مدة قرن كامل، عكست لنا ما كان لهذه المدينة الخالدة من أثر يذكر في تنمية وإنتاج مختلف العلوم الإسلامية، ومدى صلاتها الوثيقة التي كانت تربطها مع مراكز النهضة العلمية الإسلامية في المغرب والمشرق. ولولا هذا الكتاب لظلت أكثر هذه الصفحات من تاريخ الحركة العلمية الجزائرية مجهولة.
ولكن لا بد من القولن إن الطريق التي اتبعها الغبريني في كتابته لتراجم أعلام المائة السابعة، كانت غير ذاتية في معظمها، فهو لم يعتمد على إنتاجهم من حيث قيمته الفنية، ولا على الحياة الشخصية أو العوامل التي ألهمتهم هذا الأدب أو هذا الإنتاج، مع إنه كان واسع الإلمام بكل ما كتبوه، متتبعاً مراحل حياتهم مرحلة مرحلة، ولذلك لم يعكس -في بعض تراجمه- صوراً واضحة على ضوء فن كتابة السير والتراجم، مما كان يساعدنا في يومنا هذا على معرفة ما كانت تنطوي عليه أحاسيسهم ونزواتهم، ومقام كل واحد من هؤلاء في عالم الدين والأدب والتاريخ.. الخ. ومدى تجاوبهم مع مجتمعهم ومع المجتمعات الأخرى المجاورة لهم.
تبقى كلمة أخيرة، وهي أن هذا الكتاب -بشهادة كبار العلماء- هو أصدق وأشمل سجل طبع عن الحياة العقلية في المائة السابعة للهجرة لا في بجاية وحدها إنما في المغرب الأوسط أيضاً.
