السيد عبد الله بن محمد رضا بن محمد آل شُبّر (1188 هـ - 1242 هـ). هو رجل دين ومُحدّث ومتكلم ومُفسّر شيعي عراقي مُتَوفّى وعاش في أواخر القرن الثاني عشر الهجري والنصف الأول من القرن الثالث عشر. وهو محل توثيق عند عدد من رجاليي الشيعة ومُحدّثيهم، ومنهم: عباس القمي،(1) وعبد النبي الكاظمي.(2)
بعد وفاة محسن الأعرجي سنة 1227 هـ، ثُمّ وفاة المرجع جعفر كاشف الغطاء سنة 1228 هـ؛ فقد توجه الشيعة في العراق نحو عبد الله شبّر وبدأت شهرته تتسع أكثر فأكثر حتى صار مرجعاً وكان عمره حينئذٍ 43 عاماً. كان ينعت بـالمجلسي الثاني.

لا تخفى على أحد من الناس فضيلة علم الأخلاق ومكانته فالأخلاق الحسنة هي المنجية والأخلاق السيئة هي المهلكة المبعدة عن رحمة رب العالمين. وهذا الكتاب قد حوى زبدة هذا العلم الشرف وجمع خلاصة القول في أمرض القلوب وعلاجاتها بيان المنجيات والرذائل المهلكات وقد رصعه المؤلف بالآيات القرآنية ودرر الأحاديث المعصومة والبراهين اليقينية والدلائل العقلية والشواهد النقلية، رتبه المؤلف على مقدمة وأبواب وفصول تناول فيها أسرار العبادات كالطهارة والنية والأخلاق، والصلاة والزكاة والصوم إضافة إلى أسرار الحج وزيارة النبي والمشاهد.
كما يبحث في العبادات وآداب المعيشة والمجالسة مع أنصاف الخلق والإخاء والألفة وتقسيم الأخوان والأصدقاء وحقوق الأخوة والصحبة وحقوق المسلم والمؤمن وحقوق الجوار والأقارب والرحم والوالدين والولد، والزوجين.
ويفرد المؤلف ركناً من الكتاب للحديث عن المهلكات من الأخلاق الر التي هي السموم القاتلة المهلكة للدين، كما يعرض للمنجيات كالتوبة والصبر والرضا بالقضاء والشكر والرجاء الخوف والزهد.
