إن ابن مالك أكبر نحوي ظهر في القرن السابع الهجري في العالم الإسلامي كله، ويعد من أشهر النحاة الذين عرفهم تاريخ النحو العربي منذ نشأته في القرن الثاني للهجرة إلى اليوم، وباستثناء سيبويه، فإننا لا نكاد نجد عالماً من علماء النحو نال تلك الشهرة الواسعة التين الها ابن مالك صاحب الألفية. وقد أمر الله، عزّ وجل، ابن مالك بما تفوق به على عدد غير قليل ممن سبقه من النحاة، وهيأ له من الأسباب ما أتاح له أن يصل إلى هذا الذي لم يستطعه الأوائل، وهو هذا المذهب النحوي الذي شغل به النحاة من بعده، والذي لا يزال حتى الآن أساساً لأكثر الدراسات والبحوث النحوية المعاصرة. ويقوم هذا المذهب في جوهره على أساس المزج والاختيار من المذاهب السابقة كلها: بصرية أو بغدادية أو أندلسية، هذا مع ميل واضح إلى الحياد، وتوخ حاد للسهولة والتيسير، وجنوح شديد إلى الاجتهاد والتجديد.
وهذه الدراسة التي تدور في هذا الكتاب حول ابن مالك النحوي: حياته، ومصنفاته، ومذهبه، النحوي. جاءت ضمن ثلاثة أبواب: الباب الأول: يدور حول ابن مالك، حياته في الأندلس والمشرق، الباب الثاني: يدور حول مؤلفاته نظماً ونثراً، وما أثِرَ من شعره، الباب الثالث: يدور حول مذهبه النحوي.
