سعدت كثيرًا حين شرفني "مركز البحث العلمي وتحقيق التراث" بجامعة أم القرى في مكة المكرمة بتحقيق كتاب "شرح الكافية الشافية" للإمام جمال الدين أبي عبد الله محمد بن عبد الله بن مالك ذلك أن صحبتي لابن مالك ولمؤلفاته قديمة ووثيقة، فمؤلفات ابن مالك تعرفت عليها في سن مبكرة، وهأنذا اواصل المسيرة بتحقيق أرجوزته "الكافية الشافية" وشرحها، والحق أن الكافية الشافية" أرجوزة سهلى ميسرة، قل أن تسمح بمثلها القرائح، أو تطمح إلى النسج على منوالها المطامح، فقد جمع فيها ناظمها مسائل النحو والصرف، وبسطها، ورتب الأبواب وضبطها.
أما شرحها فقد التزم فيه المصنف - رحمه الله - منهجًا ارتضاه لنفسه، وأعلنه في المقدمة حين قال "سألني بعض الألباء، المعتنين بحقائق الأنباء أن أتلو (الكافية الشافية) بشرح تخف معه المؤونة، وتحف به المعونة، ويكون به الغناء مضمونًا، والعناء مأمونًا، فأجبت دعوته"، لذلك أقتصر في هذا الشرح على جلاء الغامض، وتيسير العسير، وضم المشتت وتقريب البعيد، وهو إذا تحدث في موضوع ما تحدث حديثًا شاملًا، واستقصاه استقصاءً كاملًا في تنسيق رائع، وأسلوب بديع مع دعم كلامه بما يحتاح إليه المقام من دليل وشاهد، ولقد حرصت في تحقيقي لهذا الكتاب أن أضع بين يدي القارئ الأصل الكامل لهذا الكتاب مضبوطًا، مقتصدًا في التعليق، مقتصرًا على ما يحتاج إليه المقام دون إسراف أو حشو.
