وتبرز أهمية هذا الموضوع في الوقت الراهن على وجه الخصوص نظراً لما تشهده منطقتنا من متغيرات اقتصادية سريعة. وهذه المتغيرات تحتم بطبيعة الخال أن نتريث عند اتخاذ أي قرار من قرارات الاستثمار. فسياسة الاندفاع والتقليد التي اتسمت بها بعض القرارات الاسثتمارية في الماضي يجب العدول عنها إلى سياسة التروي والتعمق في الدراسة. فالمجال أصبح لا يتسع غلا للمشروعات التي تتمتع بصلاحية اقتصادية سواء بالنسبة للمستثمر نفسه أو بالنسبة للمجتمع ككل.
وهناك من المعايير التي يجب مراعاتها عند تقييم جدوى أي مشروع والتأكيد من صلاحيته سواء من الناحية التسويقية الناحية الفنية أو الناحية المالية الاقتصادية، وهو ما تم استعراضه من خلال هذا الدليل العملي الذي بين أيدينا والذي جاء تحت عنوان "دراسات الجدوى الاقتصادية".
