تعد دراسة التنظيم في المؤسسة العسكرية من اهم الدراسات في مجال علم الإجتماع بصورة عامة وعلم الإجتماع العسكري بصورة خاصة، وذلك لأن مثل هذه الدراسات في حقل علم الإجتماع العسكري قليلة وخصوصاً الدراسات المتعلقة بالتنظيمات العسكرية وخططها التعبوية والسوقية، حيث أن أغلب علماء الإجتماع قد اغفلوا دراسة هذه التنظيمات أو حتى التعرض لها في جهودهم العلمية ولهذا لم تتمكن البحوث الإجتماعية عن المؤسسة العسكرية من تحقيق تقدم يوافق ما حققته في ميادين أخرى كالصناعة وغيرها.
تهتم هذه الدراسة بالعوامل والمتغيرات الإجتماعية التي تكمن خلف الظواهر والأحداث العسكرية وتشريح الوحدات القتالية تشريحاً إجتماعياً لأجل دراسة الخلفية الإجتماعية والطبقية لأبناء القوات المسلحة، بالإضافة إلى دراسة الأساس الإجتماعي للعقيدة العسكرية والعلاقة بين القيادة السياسية والقوات المسلحة من جهة وبين الشعب والقوات المسلحة من جهة أخرى، إضافة إلى دراسة التحليل الإجتماعي لنظامي السلطة والمنزلة الإجتماعية ودورهما الفاعل في إدامة تماسك أبناء القوات المسلحة مع تأشير ودراسة المشكلات الإجتماعية والإنسانية التي تواجه القوات المسلحة نتيجة لطبيعة المهام القتالية التي يتحملونها خصوصاً خلال فترات الحرب.
