إن الدين الإسلامي لا ينتقص من أهمية الجنس ولا ينكره، بل على العكس تماماً، يضفي عليه معنى رفيعاً ويجلله بالإيجابية الكاملة، الأمر الذي يزيل أي أثر للشعور بالإثم أو الخطيئة، وتبعاً لهذا المنظور فإن الإسلام يسمح للغريزة أن تتجلى ببهجة وصفاء، بحيث تصبح الحياة صيغة متكاملة.
ففي الصدر الأول للإسلام، لم تكن الثقافة الجنسية محاطة بالكتمان أو الحياء أو الحرج كما هو الحال في مرحلتنا المعاصرة، فقد كان السؤال عن المسائل الجنسية كغيره من الأسئلة يواجه به المسلمون والمسلمات رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم والأئمة عليهم السلام، والصحابة الكرام والفقهاء دون حرج أو حياء، وكانوا بدورهم يجيبون على الأسئلة الأخرى، ولم يحدث فصل أو تفريق بين الجنس وغيره.
وهذه الوريقات كشفت عن باب لهذا الطريق الصعب ليقف الفرد المسلم من خلال قراءتها علة مرونة الإسلام في ما يتعلق بالعلاقة الزوجية وثقافة الجنس.
