الشخص الذي جعلني أدرك، بشكل ما، قيمة التدوين والتوثيق وكتابة أهمّ الأحداث وأنا في عمر مبكّر، هو أخي الحبيب محمّد واثق اللغوي الأديب الفاهم الواعي المدرك بوعي فطريّ ووعي عقليّ لقيمة وأهميّة الكثير من ظواهر الحياة. ورغم أنّه يكبرني بأربع سنوات فقط، إلاّ أنني أشعر، بسبب وعيه وثقافته ورؤيته الثاقبة للأمور، أنني أصغر منه بمقدار مئة عام. وأنا - وحتّى هذا اليوم - أهتدي بآرائه ورؤاه الثاقبة ونصائحه وتوجيهاته الصائبة. لقد فتّحت عيني عليه، فهو قدوتي ومعلّمي ومرشدي الذي كنت أقلّد كلّ ما يصدر عنه من تفكير وسلوك. كل ذلك لأنه كان وما زال صريحاً معي في نقده وملاحظاته وآرائه.
وينبغي تذكير القارئ الكريم بأنّ هذا الكتاب جدّ صريح في ما يطرح من معلومات وذكريات. لكنّه أقلّ صراحة حين يتعلّق الأمر بشخصيات الساسة ورجال الحكم الذين عرفتهم بحكم عملي الغناسيقيّ من خلال الحفلات والأماسي الليلية التي أتاحت لي التعرّف على غالبيّة رجال الحكم ممن عاصرتهم في حياتي منذ أن قدّمت نفسي في مطلع العام 1973، وقد لاقيت - شخصياً - كل الإحترام والتقدير من الجميع، وهذا ينطبق على المسؤولين الذين تعاملت معهم خلال فترة وجيزة بعيد الاحتلال الأمريكي البغيض للعراق عام 2003م، لأنني كنت - قبل الاحتلال وبعده - مديراً لبيوت المقام العراقيّ، ومن ثمّ صرت عميداً لمعهد الدراسات الموسيقيّة العراقي، ولقيت كلّ الاحترام والتقدير من مسؤولي وزارة الثقافة ووزارة التربية، وكل الدعم في تسيير أمور وظيفتي الفنيّة، سواء في بيوت المقام العراقي أو في إدارة معهد الدراسات الموسيقية، إلى أن ساءت الأمور السياسية، وأصبحت الحياة لا تطاق في ظلّ الاحتلال البغيض، وتلقّيت أكثر من تهديد شخصيّ لترك إدارة المعهد. عندئدِ بادرت إلى تقديم استقالتي، وغادرت مباشرة إلى المملكة الأردنية الهاشمية الشقيقة.
