النحو والصرف عِلمان لا يفترقان، وإذا كان علم النحو يبحث في أحوال الكلمة المتنقّلة، ويدرس الجملة والتغيير الّذي يحدث على بنية الكلمة لغرض لفظيّ أو غرض معنويّ، فإنّ علم الصرف يبحث في كيفيّة صياغة الأبنية العربيّة، والّتي يجب الإهتمام بها، لأنّه ضروري لدراسة اللغة العربيّة وآدابها، للتعرّف على أصول الكلمات من حيث بنيتها والزيّادات الطارئة عليها، أو الحروف المحذوفة منها، أو الكلمات الّتي حصل فيها إعلال أو إبدال؛ وقد وضح العلماء، على مدى العصور السابقة، أهميّة هذا العلم حتّى وصل إلينا ما هو عليه الآن.
يقدّم هذا الكتاب تعريفاً بعلم الصرف وأهميّته، كما يقدّم الميزان الصرفيّ، وطريقة وزن الكلمات، ثمّ توكيد الأفعال بالنون، ثمّ المجرّد والمزيد من الأفعال والأسماء، ثمّ الجامد والمشتقّ، والمصادر وأنواعها وأقسامها، ثمّ الأسماء المقصورة والمنقوصة والممدودة، ثمّ أنواع الجموع وجميع التكسير بالتحديد، ثمّ التصغير والنسب والإعلال والإبدال والإدغام مع قواعدها وحكم كلّ منها، مع توضيح كلّ ذلك بالتمرينات والتدريبات الّتي تهمّ الدارس.
