تحت عنوان "البيت العراقي في العصر العثماني: عناصره المعيارية والزخرفية" يقدم الدكتور حميد الدراجي دراسة في البيت العراقي التراثي وأهميته من الناحية التاريخية والآثارية، وبعد زيارات ميدانية للبيوت التراثية في جميع أنحاء القطر، وقع اختيار المؤلف على خمسة عشر نموذجاً من البيوت التراثية تم تقسيمها استناداً إلى التقسيم الجغرافي التقليدي لطبيعة سطح العراق وذلك بسبب أن لكل منطقة صفاتها وخصائصها الفنية والمعمارية المتميزة والتي انعكست على عمارة البيت وهي على النحو الآتي: 1- المنطقة الشمالية: ويمثلها النمط السائد في الموصل وأربيل وكركوك، ومنها الطراز الحيري، وبعض الزخارف الرخامية التي ترجع في أصولها إلى حضارة وادي الرافدين وعن البيوت المختارة هنا في هذه الدراسة. يذكر المؤلف: بيت السيد (زياد الجليلي) وبيت السيد (مصطفى التوتنجي) وغيرها من بيوت في الموصل وأربيل وكركوك التي بدت واضحة عليها التأثيرات التركية الوافدة. 2- المنطقة الوسطى: ويمثلها النمط السائد في بغداد والنجف، ومن النماذج المذكورة في الكتاب، بيت السيد (محمود الاسترابادي) في الكاظمية، وبيت السيد (الشهربلي) شاعر الجمهورية، والثالث بيت السيد (أبو السعد) الكرخ. 3- المنطقة الجنوبية: ويمثلها النمط السائد في البصرة، ومن البيوت التراثية يذكر الكتاب بيت "الوالي" في محلة الباشا – البصرة القديمة، وبيتا الشيخ "خزعل" ، الأول وهو الكبير وقد كان مخصصاً لاستقبال الضيوف من الرجال والثاني كان مخصصاً للنساء "الحرم". وفي جميع النماذج المقدمة في الكتاب يقدم المؤلف دراسة مهمة للعناصر المعمارية في البيت التراثي العراقي من الناحية الزخرفية (الزخارف النباتية – الزخارف الهندسية – الزخارف الحيوانية – الزخارف الكتابية) يرافق ذلك دراسة للمواد المستعملة في بناء البيوت في العصر العثماني بجوانبه كافة.
