عرض أحمد النقشبندي الخالدي وهو أحد المشايخ في الطريقة النقشبندية في كتابه "جامع الأصول في الأولياء وأوصافهم" بأسلوب الإسناذ الموثوق والجمع والمقارنة بطرقة تخدم نهج الصوفية، فأورد الشواهد ودعمها ورددها وقلبها على أكثر من محمل حتى أتت راسخة قوية وشاملة في المواضيع وفي الإشباع.
ففي هذا الكتاب أدلة على (الكرامات والخوارق) التي تثير الدهشة وتطرح سؤالاً حول حقيقة تخلص الصوفي من القوانين التي تسري على البشر، وهي يشكل عالم التصوف والمتصوفة سلوكاً مغايراً للطبيعة وقوانينها، أم أن المسألة تكمن وراء تشدد الصوفيون على أنفسهم وإخضاعها قدر المستطاع إلى إرادتها. فالصراع مع النفس يتخذ أشكالاً مختلفة وقساوة مضنية ويدعوا إلى التخلص من سيطرة الحاجة ومن قانون الحياة الزائلة ومن هنا يخوض الصوفي صراعاً داخلياً ينأى عن صراعات الدنيا ومتطلباتها.
وقد اتخذ المؤلف للكتاب اسماً ملائماً لمحتوياته وتنويعاته فقد انكب على جمع الشواهد والأقوال والتجارب والأوصاف وقدم لنا أصول الطرق ومهمات المريدين والشيوخ مع شروحات وإضافات تتناول تعابير ومصطلحات ومفاهيم التصوف.
