ودور الجامعة هو أنها توفر البيئة أمام المتعلم بأنها تقدم له مفاتيح المعرفة وأدواتها، واستراتيجيات العمل ليحصل على المعلومة التي يريد أو يكتسب المهارة التي يرغب في اكتسابها أو يحل المشكلة التي تواجهه أو يؤدي المهام المنوطة به.
