من الرابع من يونيو 1994 أدانت محكمة دكا عاصمة بنجلاديش الأديبة تسليمة نصرين بالسجن لمدة عامين بتهمة المفر والإساءة للإسلام وذلك في روايتها "العار لاجا" والتي أدانت فيها عمليات الانتقام التي قام بها أبناء بلدها المسلمون ضد أبناء بلدها الهندوس من اضطهاد وظالم بيّن.
هذا ولم يكن قصد الرواية أن تطعن في الإسلام أو تشكك في مبادئه، كما ولم يكن قصدها الهجوم على الإسلام ولكن على المسلمين، وليس على المسلمين كلهم، ولكن على بعض المسلمين الذين يسكنون بنجلاديش، ليس كل المسلمين الذين في بنجلاديش ولكن بعضهم، المتطرفون منهم الذين ارتكبوا المذابح والاعتداءات الوحشية غلى آلاف من أبناء وطنهم الأبرياء، الرواية لا تدين التطرف الإسلامي فقط، لكن كل أنواع التطرف الديني التي تملأ عالمنا وتهدد أركانه بالحروب والمذابح ومختلف أنواع الاضطهاد سواء كان ذلك في الهند وبنجلاديش أو في البوسنة والهرسك، أو في أوروبا نفسها، طبعاً مع اختلاف من نوعية الأحداث، ودرجتها وتقبل المجتمع وقانونيته لها.
هذا ولا تكتفي الرواية بإدانة التطرف والمتطرفين، ولكنها تدين بشدة المثقفين الذين يزعمون أنهم تقدميون وديمقراطيون وعلمانيون، بينما الطائفية تتغلغل تحت جلودهم، كما تدين السياسيين والأحزاب التي تفعل أي شيء من أجل الفوز بالانتخابات والاحتفاظ بالكراسي بغض النظر عن المبادئ التي أسست هذه الأحزاب من أجلها، أو الخطر الذي يعرضون له البلاد بتنازلهم عن هذه المبادئ ولا تكتفي الرواية بذلك بل تدين أيضاً سلبية الأقلية وقلة استعدادها للدفاع عن حقها والبقاء في وطنها.
