"مهردار" رواية تحكي تاريخ فلسطين، ومدنها، وجبالها، وناسها.. مهردار.. هي الزعرور والعنب والعكوب وقصص الحب الأولى.. قبة بديا، وقلعة حكاياها السرية..".
عن "مهردار" يقول سلامة: نص حين بدأت التفكير به كنت واقعياً في المطلق.. وحين انتهيت منه لم أدر إن كنت مبالغاً في خيالي وسردياً في واقعيتي حد التصوير الفوتوغرافي..؟! الآن وأنا أرفع "مهردار" هدية لقارئها، صدقت أنها ليست بالخيالية كلها ولا بالواقعية في أغلب صورها...".
