-ولد في قرية الزينية بحري بالأقصر -تخرج في قسم علم النفس بكلية الآداب جامعة عين شمس 1962.
ونال الدكتوراه في علم النفس من جامعة القاهرة 1972 -أستاذ العلوم النفسية واستشاري الصحة النفسية والعلاج النفسي بالمركز الطبي التابع لجامعة الملك فهد للبترول والمعادن بالظهران.
-شغل في السابق كثيرا من الوظائف الأكاديمية والسريرية في الوطن العربي وأمريكا من بينها أستاذ علم النفس الإكلينيكي ورئيس قسم الطب النفسي بكلية الطب والعلوم الطبية جامعة الملك فيصل بالمملكة العربية السعودية، واستشاري الصحة النفسية والعلاج النفسي بمستشفى الملك فهد الجامعي بالخبر.
-نشر ما يربو على 100 بحثا أو مقالا في كثير من المجلات العالمية المتخصصة والثقافية في الوطن العربي والولايات المتحدة وأوربا والهند.
كذلك نشر كثيرا من الكتب الجامعية والثقافية في علم النفس والعلاج النفسي، وغيرها من الموضوعات التي تهم القارئ العام والمتخصص.
- عضو وزميل بكثير من الجمعيات العلمية العالمية في علم النفس والصحة النفسية بما فيها الجمعية النفسية الأمريكية، وأكاديمية العلوم والفنون والآداب بولاية ميشيجان، وجمعية الصحة العقلية التابعة لمنظمة الصحة الدولية.
-كما منح الكثير من الجوائز التقديرية والشرفية من مؤسسات أمريكية وبريطانية، تقديرا لمساهماته الفكرية الملموسة، وإثراء الفكر العالمي.

هذا الكتاب كتب للمتخصصين وغير المتخصص. للمتخصص من حيث عرض بعض جوانب التقدم في النظريات السيكلوجية الحديثة (نظرية التعلم بشكل خاص) في ميدان علاج اضطرابات السلوك البشري. ولهذا فقد حاول عند الترض لأي منهج من العلاج أن يبين أولاً: أساسه العلمي وما وراءه من بحثو وتجارب، وأن نصف، ثانياً: وبتفصيل نسبي -طريقة تطبيق هذا المنهج، وأن يوضح ثالثاً أهم الدراسات والتجارب التي تثبت فاعلية هذا المنهج أو ذاك. وهي جوانب من الضروري الإلمام بها لمن يفكر في اتخاذ العلاج النفسي مهنة أو لمن يمارسه من الأطباء والمتخصصين في علم النفس والخدمة الاجتماعية.
