إن من صفات المحب الصادق أن يحب ما يحبه محبوبه ويكره ما يكرهه، فالذي يحب الله تعالى ويحب أن يكون مؤمناً يجب عليه أن يتبع رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم ونبيه وصفيه من خلقه محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم، ويجب عليه أن يسير على نهج الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم ويقتفي أثره وخطاه ويتأسى به في كل شيء ويجعل هواه تبعاً لما جاء به، ومن ذلك أن يحب ما يحبه النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم ويكره ما يكرهه.
وفي سبيل تسهيل الطريق على المسلم لكي يحب ما يحبه النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم ويكره ما يكرهه، وعوناً له على العمل بقول الله تعالى: "قل إن كنتم تحبون الله فاتبعوني يحببكم الله" ولا شك أن ما يحبه النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم أو يكرهه من الناس والأمور والأشياء وغير ذلك كثير جداً ويصعب حصره، ولهذا فقد اتبع المؤلف في إعداده لهذا الكتاب منهجاً خاصاً ووضع شرطاً لكتابة أي موضوع وهو أن يكون الحديث الشريف المبني عليه الموضوع صحيحاً ويتضمن لفظ الحب أو الرضى أو الإعجاب، أو لفظ البغض أو الكره، واستبعاد أي حديث لم يذكر فيه واحد من هذه الألفاظ حتى وإن كان يفهم منه الحب أو البغض.
وقد جاءت موضوعات الكتاب منوعة تنويعاً كبيراً وشيقاً حيث كانت هناك موضوعات في العبادات، والفقه، والتاريخ، والقصص، والناس، والطعام، واللباس، والبلاد، والأمور، والأشياء وغير ذلك.
واحتوى الكتاب على أكثر من مائة وخمسين موضوعاً مختلفاً منها ما يصلح أن يكون خطبة جمعة، ومنها ما يصلح أن يكون محاضرة، أو درساً دينياً، أو كتاباً ونحو ذلك، ويمكن أن تقرأ هذه الموضوعات في مجالس الرجال أو مجالس النساء، وكذلك يمكن أن تقرأ على الأطفال، خاصة الموضوعات التي تتحدث عن حياة الصحابة. كما أن الكتاب يمكن أن يكون مرجعاً سريعاً في الموضوعات التي تضمنها. واحتوى الكتاب على حوالي ثلاثمئة آية قرآنية وقريباً من الألف حديث شريف.
