يحاول المؤلف في جزئي الكتاب تحليل المفهومات الإسلامية المألوفة. فقد بحث في الجزء الأول مفهومي "قدر وقضاء" و"كسب" وغيرها، وذلك من خلال المدارس والمذاهب التي تناوبت في تاريخ الإسلام بما فيه العصر الحديث. هذا في الجزء الأول أما في الجزء الثاني فقد تحدث المؤلف مفهوم الحرية في جانبها الاجتماعي والتي تناولها القرآن الكريم، والتي كانت أقرب إلى نظرية في الحرية الاجتماعية، منه إلى إثارة مشكلة الحريات الاجتماعية. إذ أنه قد ضمن عبر الأوامر والنواحي والتشريعات المختلفة، الحريات المدنية والسياسية والاقتصادية، محاولاً التوفيق بين الحرية الفردية، ووحدة الجماعة. بهذا الإيضاح يحاول المؤلف وعلى ضوء القرآن الكريم الوصول إلى حقيقة ما إذا كان الإسلام قد وفر هذه الحريات، وإلى أي حد.
