محمود بريكان شاعر عراقي رائد لم يصدر في حياته أي مجموعة شعرية، أتيح أخيراُ لمحبي هذا الشاعر ومتابعيه من نقاد وقراء أن يطلعوا على أهم إنجازات البريكان الشعرية خلال الفترة 1958-1998، وذلك من خلال الكتاب الذي أعده الشاعر العراقي باسم المرعبي والذي حمل عنوان "متاهة الفراشة"، فقد تضمن الكتاب أهمية البريكان وعمقه، لكن في الوقت نفسه، تدفعه الحيرة إلى التساؤل عن سر عدم شيوع مثل هذا النموذج الراقي من الشعر؟ وهل كان واقع القصيدة العربية على ما هو عليه اليوم، لو أتيح لشعر البريكان الانتشار الطبيعي، أسوة باقران له مثل السياب والبياتي وسعدي يوسف أو أدونيس.
ومما جاء في المقدمة، نقتطف الآتي وهو ما يلامس هذه النقطة، يقول المرعبي في مقدمته: المساحة الحقيقة التي كان يجب أن يشغلها إنجاز البريكان الشعري، كانت محاصرة بموقف الشاعر الصارم من النشر وعرقلته وصول قصائده إلى أكبر عدد من القراء، وحتى ما دون ذلك، فهو مثلاً وبعد انقطاع لأكثر من عقدين، عاد لينشر مجموعة مهمة من قصائده هي "عوالم متداخلة"، نشرا محدوداً وذلك عبر مجلة "الأقلام" العراقية في العام 1993.
هذا النوع من الحجر على نتاج الشاعر-وإن بإرادته-ساهم في بقاء هذا النتاج بعيداً عن السياق الطبيعي الذي جرت به القصيدة العربية الحديثة، ولو كان الأمر عكس ذلك، أي أن قصائده أخذت حقها من الرواج-وهي تستحق رواجاً غير عادي-لكان الحديث عن الريادة-الريادات الشعرية والأنماط والتعدد والغنى في الأشكال والمضامين التي أحرزها الشعر العربي الحديث، ينحو -اليوم-منحى أخر. ولكان للبريكان، وهو الذي وافقت بداياته مفتتح عهد جديد للشعر العربي، تياره القوي المؤثر في مجمل صيرورة هذا العشر.
